Island Fling
Beyond the tartan and kilts and shortbread and sheep, there's another Scotland. It's a Scotland of rugged cliffs, towering mountains, hidden lochs and teeming wildlife. For nature lovers, adventurers and keen photographers, Aurora Expedition's Wild Scotland cruise is chance to see this other face of a familiar land. The 11-day cruise will include the Orkney, Hebrides and Shetland islands, bird colones, a Neolithic village, a small stone henge and optional activities such as kayaking. Departing on June 23 (Aberdeen to Oban) and July 3 (Oban to Aberdeen), the Polar Pioneer, a former research ship, will carry up to 56 passengers through one of the more remote corners of northern Europe. A historian and a naturalist travel on board the ship to give talks and guide excursions. Aurora Expeditions; 1800 637 688; www.auroraexpiditions.com.au Cruise from $4135 including accommodation; meals on board and numerous excursions.
